Frequently Asked Questions

Carpet Patching

"Will the patch be noticeable?"

Answer:

The determining factor in how well a patch will blend is how well the carpet we are using for the patch blends with the carpet we are patching into. There are a couple factors to consider. The first issue is the age of the carpet. When you have a carpet that is over a few years old there can be a couple of issues with patching. One is that if the carpet gets a lot of sunlight, then you can have sun fading in those areas. This can cause an issue with patching because the carpet that we use for the patch will not match the color in sun faded areas even if it is the exact carpet. The second issue is how worn the carpet is. If you put a patch in an area that gets a lot of traffic it may be noticeable because we are putting in a brand-new piece that has not seen foot traffic. We do have a process to add wear to the piece we are putting in to make it blend better.

"Do I have to worry about the patch coming up when I vacuum or have the carpets cleaned?"

Answer:

No, you should not have to worry about the patch. This is because we use the best seaming system available. In fact, the seams of the patch are most likely the strongest seams in the whole house because of the system we use to seam the carpet. Most installers will use a normal seaming iron that costs about $60.00. The seam iron that we use is a $500.00 seam iron. It uses radio waves to heat the seam tape rather than the standard method of having the iron sit directly on the seam tape and glue. The adhesive on the tape we use is much stronger than the standard tape used in installation.

"Will the carpet that you bring out to put back in the closet match?"

Answer:

In most cases the answer is no. There are too many carpet types and colors to make it feasible for us to carry all of them. We will do our best to bring a piece that matches. If it is important to the client that the carpet matches in the closet, we recommend they purchase a piece from a carpet store. If they have it there when we do the repairs, we will put that back in the closet. We only provide carpet for the closet if the client is not concerned about it matching.
